CGI window installation in Long Beach typically costs $340 – $680 per opening when a replacement frame or sash assembly is needed, and most jobs are completed in a single visit. We keep common CGI-compatible hardware and glass packs on the truck, so a failed unit often turns into a same-day fix once we measure and confirm the series. Most Long Beach homeowners discover a problem the way you probably did: a window that suddenly won’t stay open, a crank that spins without moving the sash, or water pooling on the sill after the first real rain of the season.
If you have a CGI window that is fogged, binding, or leaking, this page covers exactly what fails, what it costs to fix, and what we do differently when we install the replacement. Keith Yamada has been working on coastal California windows since his days at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, and the salt air here creates a very specific set of wear patterns we will walk through below.
Which CGI Models This Applies To
We install and service parts across CGI’s residential and commercial product lines, including the Estate Collection, Sentinel series, and their impact-rated casement, single-hung, and horizontal roller models. The key to a correct match is the glass etching and the label on the sash or frame, which usually carries a four-to-six character code identifying the glass type and series. If the label has worn off, which happens often on south-facing Long Beach elevations, we measure the visible glass dimensions and the frame pocket depth instead. A quick note: CGI’s impact windows use a laminate interlayer that changes the glass thickness, so a standard glass pack from another manufacturer will not seat correctly even if the width and height match. That is the single most common compatibility miss we see when homeowners try to source parts themselves.
Lightwell Windows Long Beach is an independent service provider and not affiliated with CGI, but we have worked with enough of their units to know which factory parts are worth ordering and where a quality aftermarket roller assembly or balance hardware performs just as well at a lower price. For visible components like sash locks and cranks, we recommend staying OEM. The original hardware is engineered to the frame’s exact tolerances, and mixing brands can create small gaps that undermine the window’s air and water rating. For hidden hardware like rollers and balances, a good aftermarket replacement from a known supplier often equals or exceeds the original.

Signs Your CGI Window Installation Is Failing
- Sash drifts down or won’t stay open. On single-hung and casement units, this almost always points to a failed balance system or worn friction hinges. Coastal humidity accelerates corrosion on the internal springs, even when the frame itself still looks new.
- Crank spins freely or grinds. The operator gear inside the crank housing has stripped. This is a wear part, and after eight to ten years of daily use near the coast, it is the most common mechanical failure we replace on CGI casement windows.
- Condensation between the glass panes. The seal has failed and the inert gas between the panes has escaped. Once that happens, the insulating value of the unit drops permanently, and the only real fix is a glass pack replacement.
- Water stains on the interior sill after rain. This can be a failed weatherstripping or a drainage channel that has clogged with wind-blown sand and salt. If the frame is intact, a new seal and a cleaned weep system usually solves it. If the frame itself has swelled, the sill may need replacement.
- Visible frame separation at the corners. On impact-rated CGI frames, the corner welds are under constant tension from the laminated glass. Hairline separation is a warning sign the frame is degrading, and it should be addressed before the unit loses its structural rating.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here is what we typically see in Long Beach for CGI window installation work, depending on what failed:
| Repair Type | Typical Range (Parts + Labor) |
|---|---|
| Weatherstripping replacement, single window | $120 – $220 |
| Balance or roller replacement (per sash) | $180 – $310 |
| Crank operator replacement | $160 – $280 |
| Full glass pack replacement (insulated unit) | $320 – $540 |
| Complete sash or frame replacement | $500 – $780 |
Every quote is a written, line-item price before we touch the window. No surprises after the fact. The cost difference between a $180 balance swap and a $680 frame replacement comes down to whether the failure is in the moving hardware or the frame itself, and we will tell you which one you actually have rather than selling you the larger job. All of our work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it is not right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: make sure the window is not simply out of track, confirm the lock is not engaged, and clear any visible debris from the sill drainage channels. Those three checks take five minutes and occasionally solve the problem outright. What we do not recommend is pulling the sash out of the frame to reach hidden components. CGI impact-rated sashes are heavy, the balances are under spring tension, and the laminated glass will not survive a drop onto concrete. The risk of hand injury or a shattered panel is not worth the money saved. If the window is binding, fogged, or leaking, call us at (562) 912-3327 and we will diagnose it properly.
FAQs
CGI frames generally last 25 – 35 years in Long Beach’s coastal climate, but hardware components like rollers, balances, and crank operators often need replacement at 8 – 12 years because salt air corrodes moving parts faster than the frame degrades. The good news is that these components are replaceable without changing the whole window.
Yes, in most cases only the failed component needs replacing: a glass pack, a roller, a balance, or a crank assembly. We only recommend full window replacement when the frame itself is structurally compromised or the homeowner is already planning to upgrade multiple openings.
A common part replacement takes one to two hours once the correct part is on site. Full sash or frame replacements can take half a day. We carry the most common CGI hardware in our Long Beach truck stock, so we can often complete the job in one visit.
We stock common replacement hardware including balances, rollers, crank operators, weatherstripping, and lock sets for CGI products at our Long Beach location. For less common parts, we place a factory order and schedule the installation once it arrives. Call (562) 912-3327 and we can check our truck stock while you are on the phone.
