PGT window installation in Long Beach typically runs between $85 and $145 per window when it’s a straightforward sash or balance replacement, and $400 to $900 per opening when the full frame needs to be pulled and reset. We stock PGT-compatible hardware and can usually complete a standard replacement the same day we arrive for the estimate. Most homeowners discover they have a problem when a window that used to glide open now needs two hands to lift, or when a sash that once sealed tight now whistles during the afternoon onshore breeze. In Long Beach, that salty marine air works on window hardware year-round, and PGT’s coastal-rated components are built for it. Still, even good hardware reaches the end of its service life. Keith Yamada has replaced enough PGT sashes across Wrigley, Belmont Shore, and Bixby Knolls to know exactly what fails first, and what’s still got years left in it.
Which PGT Models This Applies To
We install and service window components across PGT’s residential lines that show up most often in Long Beach homes: WinGuard (their impact-rated coastal series), SpectraGuard, and the standard PGT aluminum and vinyl single-hung and horizontal roller windows. The compatibility gotcha with PGT is that balance springs and pivot bars are series-specific. A WinGuard balance from a 2008 manufacture will not seat correctly in a SpectraGuard frame from 2016, even if both windows are the same rough width. The surest way to identify what you have is to look for the PGT laser-etched code on the glass near a corner, or the sticker along the top of the sash track. Measuring the visible glass width and the metal channel depth gets us the match from our truck stock or a same-week order. We always explain whether the right call is a genuine PGT OEM part or a quality aftermarket equivalent. For impact-rated WinGuard openings, we stay OEM. The certification depends on it. For older single-hung windows where PGT has discontinued the exact balance, a well-made aftermarket spring with matching tension often outperforms the original.

Signs Your PGT Window Installation Is Failing
- The sash drops hard when you release it. That is a balance spring or block-and-tackle assembly that has lost tension. On a PGT single-hung, it usually means the coil inside the balance has snapped or stretched beyond spec. Left alone, the window will eventually stop staying open at all.
- You can hear air moving around the edges on a windy day. PGT’s weatherstripping compresses over time, especially on windows facing the ocean side of the city. The seal gets brittle from sun and salt exposure, and small gaps open up where the sash meets the frame. That is a weatherstrip and pile replacement, not a full window replacement.
- The lock or latch no longer lines up. As Long Beach homes settle, especially the older stucco and craftsman houses in the Wrigley neighborhood, frames shift slightly. When the keeper and the latch are off by an eighth of an inch, the window will not lock properly, and it drags when you try to close it. Sometimes it is a bent pivot bar; other times the entire sash needs realignment.
- The window fogs between the panes. That means the insulated glass unit has lost its seal. PGT’s coastal glass units are built to resist this, but no seal lasts forever. The fix is a new IGU, not just new hardware, and it’s better done sooner than later.
- The track feels rough or gritty even after cleaning. Rollers on PGT horizontal windows pick up sand and corrosion in Long Beach’s coastal air. Once the roller bearings wear, metal grinds on metal, and you will see fine shavings collecting in the track. New rollers are a simple same-day fix.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here is what PGT window installation and part replacement actually costs in Long Beach, including labor:
- Balance or spring replacement: $85 to $145 per window, including the part and the service call.
- Weatherstripping and pile seal replacement: $60 to $120 per sash, depending on the frame type.
- Roller replacement on a horizontal PGT window: $75 to $130 per window.
- Insulated glass unit (IGU) replacement: $250 to $600 per sash, depending on glass package and whether it is impact-rated.
- Full window installation (frame and sash, new construction or retrofit): $400 to $900 per opening for standard sizes, more for large fixed or impact-rated units.
Every one of those numbers is the fully installed price. We write it down before we touch the window, and it covers the part, the labor, the cleanup, and the one-year workmanship assurance. If something is not right within 365 days, we come back and make it right. No change orders, no surprise line items at the end.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few checks any homeowner can do safely. Open the window and look at the visible balance or spring on either side. If one side is stretched, detached, or visibly rusted, that is the answer. Do not try to remove a tensioned balance spring yourself. These springs hold enough stored energy to break a finger. We have seen homeowners end up in urgent care trying to save a service call. The same caution applies to impact-rated WinGuard sashes. They are heavy, and they are not designed to be removed without the right technique. If your window is fogged, hard to lift, or simply will not lock, call us at (562) 912-3327. We will tell you over the phone whether it is a quick truck-stock fix or a glass order, and we will give you a written price either way.
FAQs
PGT hardware and seals in a coastal environment like Long Beach typically last 15 to 25 years before something needs attention, though the specific part matters more than the window’s age. Balances and rollers wear faster in homes within a mile or two of the water because of salt and sand. With proper re-sealing and periodic track cleaning, the glass and frame can last decades longer than the moving hardware around them. Call (562) 912-3327 and we will assess exactly what is wearing on your windows and what still has good life left.
Most PGT window problems are repairable with the right part, and a full window replacement is usually unnecessary when the issue is a balance, roller, or weatherstrip. The exceptions are cracked glass, a failed IGU with fogging between panes, or a frame that has rotted or twisted beyond sealing. If the sash moves, the glass is clear, and the frame is solid, we can almost always fix it for less than the cost of replacement. Call (562) 912-3327 for a straight answer and a free estimate.
A balance, roller, or weatherstrip swap usually takes under an hour per window once we are on site, and we can typically do multiple windows in the same visit. An IGU replacement takes longer because the new glass unit has to be ordered to the exact size and glass package, usually one to two weeks for Long Beach orders. Call (562) 912-3327 and we will give you a realistic timeline before you commit to anything.
We keep common PGT-compatible balances, rollers, pivots, and weatherstripping on our service trucks for immediate installs, though exact OEM match sometimes requires a same-week order from PGT distribution. For discontinued PGT parts, we work with aftermarket manufacturers that produce equivalents with matching tension ratings and materials. We also stock compatible hardware for CGI, CWS, and ES Windows when a home has mixed brands. Call (562) 912-3327 and we will tell you what we can do today.
