If you have a PGT window with a failed sash, broken glass, or a hardware problem, we can match and replace it. Most PGT window replacements in Long Beach run between $450 and $1,400 per opening installed, depending on the series, glass package, and whether it’s a full-frame or insert replacement. Here’s how owners usually find us: a window won’t stay open, the crank spins without moving the sash, or a seal has fogged between the panes and nobody at the hardware store can identify the exact part. You don’t need to know the part number before calling. You just need to know the symptoms.
We’re Lightwell Windows Long Beach, an independent Cedarwell location led by Keith Yamada, and we carry PGT replacement parts alongside our full window and door lineup. We’re not affiliated with PGT as a manufacturer, but we work with their products every week and know exactly how their parts are sized and matched.
Which PGT Models This Applies To
PGT builds several residential lines, and the replacement path depends on which one you have. The most common models we see in Long Beach homes are the WinGuard impact series (often on homes near the coast or in wind-prone pockets), the Spectrum vinyl line, and the Eze-Breeze porch enclosure system. Each has different hardware and glazing channels, and parts are not interchangeable across all three.
The fastest way to identify your window is to look for the etched or printed label in the corner of the glass, usually lower right. PGT labels show the series and often a manufacturing code. If the label is gone or faded, we measure the sash thickness, the glass unit thickness (typically 7/8″ or 1″ for PGT insulated units), and the hardware mounting pattern. PGT sashes are cut to tight tolerances, and a sash that’s off by 1/16″ will bind. This is where off-the-shelf generic parts fall short. For PGT specifically, we recommend OEM-matched hardware for WinGuard impact windows because the aftermarket equivalents often have slightly different cam profiles that cause the lock to feel loose over time. For Spectrum sashes, quality aftermarket balances and pivots are usually fine if they match the exact spring weight rating.

Signs Your PGT Window Replacement Is Failing
- The sash sags or scrapes when sliding. On horizontal sliders, wear in the roller assemblies makes the sash drop and drag along the track. Left alone, the track itself gets scored and the repair cost climbs from a roller swap to a full sash or frame replacement.
- The crank turns but the window barely moves. On casement and awning PGT windows, a stripped gear inside the operator mechanism is the usual culprit. This is a replace-the-part fix, not a lubricate-and-hope fix, and continuing to force the crank damages the arm and hinge points.
- The window won’t lock or the lock feels loose. On PGT impact windows, a lock that doesn’t engage cleanly means the sash has shifted slightly out of square. The lock itself may be fine; the problem is often the alignment, which is corrected when the sash is re-seated or the keeper is replaced.
- Condensation between the glass panes. Once the seal fails on a double-pane PGT unit, the argon or krypton fill escapes and the insulating value drops. In Long Beach’s coastal humidity, fogged units are common after 15 to 20 years, especially on the salt-facing sides of the house. This is a glass unit replacement, and the sash can usually be kept.
- The window is drafty even when fully closed. Weatherstripping on PGT windows compresses flat over years of sun exposure, especially on west-facing elevations in neighborhoods like Wrigley and Los Altos. A new weatherstrip kit, not a whole window, is often the right call, but only if the frame is still square.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what Long Beach homeowners typically pay, installed by us, with a written price before any work starts:
- Glass unit replacement (seal failure, crack): $350 – $800 per unit, depending on size, Low-E coating, and whether the unit is impact-rated.
- Hardware replacement (locks, cranks, rollers, balances): $150 – $450 per window, parts included.
- Full sash replacement (frame is fine, sash is shot): $500 – $1,000 per sash, including glass and hardware.
- Full window replacement (frame included, insert or full-frame): $800 – $1,400 per opening for PGT-comparable vinyl, more for WinGuard impact units.
Every price includes the part, the labor, the cleanup, and a walkthrough before we leave. We cover every job with the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the finished work isn’t right, we make it right. No debate, no countdown.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can safely check whether the problem is debris in the track, a bent keeper, or weatherstripping that has pulled loose at the corner. Those are five-minute observations, and we’ll gladly talk you through them over the phone at (562) 912-3327 before any service call is scheduled. But when it comes to PGT window replacement on anything load-bearing, tensioned, or impact-rated, DIY goes wrong quickly. WinGuard sashes are heavy, and a dropped sash can crack tile, crush fingers, or pull the frame out of square. Glass units are awkward to align without the right suction tools. By the time you’ve bought the part, guessed at the spec, and spent a Saturday wrestling with it, the cost difference between DIY and having us do it properly is usually less than the cost of fixing the mistake. That’s not a sales line. It’s the math we’ve seen repeat itself across Long Beach for years.
FAQs
PGT vinyl and aluminum windows typically last 20 to 30 years in Long Beach’s climate, with glass seal failure usually appearing between years 15 and 20 on west-facing exposures. Hardware like pivots and rollers wears out sooner, often between years 8 and 12 with regular use. Call (562) 912-3327 and describe what you’re seeing; we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a wear part or a replacement.
Yes, in most cases. A fogged glass unit, worn roller, stripped crank, or compressed weatherstrip can all be repaired without replacing the whole window, as long as the frame is sound and not racked or rotted. We repair before we recommend replacement, and the written quote shows you both options side by side. Call (562) 912-3327 to schedule a look.
Most single-window replacements, whether it’s a sash, glass unit, or full window, take one crew visit of two to four hours. Windows out of square or frames with hidden water damage may stretch the job, and we’ll tell you that before we start. Call (562) 912-3327 with your window type and we’ll give you a realistic window of time, not a guess.
We keep common PGT hardware on the truck: locks, keepers, rollers, balances, and operators for the Spectrum and WinGuard lines. Odd-sized glass units and sash orders are fabricated to spec and typically arrive within one to two weeks. If what you need is common, we can often handle it the same visit. Call (562) 912-3327 and ask; we’ll check inventory while you’re on the phone.
